First, this book makes sense and the fundamentals are easy to understand and reasonably easy to follow.

I was a successful Weight Watcher who lost 31 lbs and kept it off for 10 years and then menopause hit and my WW regime just wasn't working any more. I am used to counting calories, fat and fiber but had not really watched the carbohydrate counts and sugars. This is not too hard to do.

I started incorporating aspects of this "lifestyle" 2 weeks ago and while I haven't lost much weight yet, I have stopped gaining. Cravings for bread, crackers and sweets are virtually gone which has never happened before.

I need to mention that I am a foodie who makes most of my own food from scratch (even things like cheese, granola, and sausages) and I always get my daily 5-7 svgs of fruits and vegetables. So I don't drink sugary beverages and I eat few packaged, processed foods. I think someone who eats those foods and then begins this program would likely lose weight pretty fast just from eliminating those items from their diet.

More importantly, I feel good. Minor aches and pains and bloating have diminished significantly.

This seems very doable for the long term, once I get familiar with the low glycemic load foods and watching the carbohydrate and sugars on things like Greek yogurt, which we just assume are all relatively the same...not so!

About two weeks before I bought this book, My husband and I started a program with a nutrition coach (a person trained by a specific program and not necessarily a nutritionist). The program is all about the glycemic index and glycemic load, but only just gives the how to's and lists of foods to eat regularly, in moderations, and avoid. I started seeing results right away, but I wanted to know the science behind the success. How could we be shedding the body fat? After reading this book, I clearly understand and have made it my guiding principle. It's a little different than the program I'm "supposed to" follow. Dr. Thompson repeats some of the scientific information from chapter to chapter, but I found it very helpful. I am in the process of reading the book again because I want to internalize the information so that I can explain it to others -when people notice weight loss they always ask how. Internalizing it also reminds me to understand it's a change in life style and not a diet that will end when I reach my fitness goals. I plan on buying this book for relatives, who are clearly insulin resistant (explained in the book), when they are ready to make the change. What has helped my husband (who only needs to lose about 20 lbs. and reduce body fat) is that Dr. Thompson suggest following it 80% of the time because it will help reduce cravings -when you're told No it makes you want it even more.

I had some questions regarding the plan I started and how it fits in with Dr. Thompson's recommendations and sent an email to him. He responded quickly with his thoughts, which I appreciated.

My only wish is that the recipes in the book contained nutritional values such as carbs, proteins, glycemic index, and glycemic load. I think it would help me understand how to evaluate my own recipes.

To say that this book has changed my life is an understatement. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a year ago. I was clueless as to what foods I should eat and immediately purchased several books about Diabetes. The problem is that I was more confused after reading them then before. As an example, one said that you absolutely cannot eat Yams, another said that they are nutritious, but you have to boil them. This book was a real eye opener. Finally .......... I now know exactly what I must do to live healthy. This book is nothing short of a miracle. For anyone with diabetes you have to get this book. For anyone wanting to lose weight you have to get this book. It is a very interesting book giving you a lot of background information about why people started gaining weight in the first place, and more importantly how we can all reverse the problem. Believe me, this book is what you have been searching for. Thank you Dr. Thompson.

I have PCOS. I am overweight, but active. This diet is balanced. It is simple. Pretty much cut out starches (potatoes, rice, grains, etc). We have been living gluten free for a while so this hasn't been a major sacrifice. I love that you still can eat fruit. I love that you can still have sugar (we love the recipe for nut clusters). I love that he lays out an exercise expectation too (walking, people... you can walk!!!) But I am also training for a 5k and feel fine. It isn't a "YOU CAN EVER HAVE CARBS AGAIN" but a "moderation in all things". But you learn why starches really are useless in our diets. It was well written. A quick easy read, but with a lot of information.

I want to thank Dr. RobThompson for eliminating most of the confusion I felt when trying to get my diabetic condition under control. My glucose readings are normal or near normal now. Giving up breads, potatoes, and rice was not
As hard as I thought it would be. I have had diabetes since 2008 with complications of Gout and hypothyroidism.
It has been a living hell with the foot neuropathy and gout pain, but now, I have been able to eliminate the diabetic problems.
I do still take glipizide 5mg, split in half, twice daily. I was taking two glipizide per day. When I took the whole pill, I developed low blood sugar after being on this new food plan for a month.
I hope to eliminate glipizide, in the near future. This book is a gold mind of good information! I will also give my
Husband credit for thinking of using rubbing alcohol sprayed on my feet when the nerve pain attacked and felt
Like a 3rd degree sunburn. It cooled my feet and gave me immediate relief, shortening the attack.
