Maxwell William Roman was an officer in the United States Air Force. Roman originally joined the United States Army Air Corps after completing high school. During World War II he was assigned to the Ninth Air Force. As commanding officer of the Ninth Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, Roman was in charge forecasting the weather for the Normandy landings. Following the war Roman was assigned to Turkey and helped to establish the country's national weather service.
