Okay, I'll confess. I purchased this CD because I am a huge George Harrison fan and simply had to hear his last song recorded October 2nd, 2001. In short, "Horse to the Water" is one of Harrison's best efforts. And, yes, I am guilty of playing only that song for quite some time before ever giving the rest of the CD a listen.
When I finally got around to listening...WOW! The musical range on this CD is tremendous...and basically breathtaking. Quite simply, there is not one single bad track to be found. From Sting's opening "Seventh Son" to Clapton's rendition of Ray Charles' "What Would I Do Without You," this CD is a superb musical smorgasbord.
The booklet that accompanies the CD pretty much sums up the listening experience..."For optimum results, play as loudly as possible in comfortable environments."
This is actually one of my favorite Huey Lewis albums. It is very different than his other work, like Sports, and that is why I probably like it so much. It wasn't completely overplayed like all the rest, and it features a slightly more Cajun Rock direction to it.
All of the songs are catching and stick in your head. I especially like this as driving music, and it always reminds me of driving up the California coast on a slightly overcast day.

I have been a long time Huey Lewis and the News fan and was surprised that this album was not only not being sold but was selling for so cheap used. I found it to be a awesome album from a group who was out there doing their own thing and doing it well and I remember buying it new on cassette tape. Needless to say, when the cassette players went away I was extatic to find a CD. This album is like a mix of different themes and styles to be with songs like "Old Antone's" that are very up tempo to "Bobo Tempo" with its slow sullen tones. "Perfect World" and "Small World" sang about life, how things aren't always perfect, and and that this world isn't so big that we couldn't find a way to get along. The rest of the songs touch on relationships with friends and the significant others in our lives and then the finally of a instrumental piece displaying the varied talents of the band who played LIVE music! The best thing about Huey Lewis and the News is that you never know exactly what your gonna get next, but it's gonna be good! Any Hueys Lewis and the News music collection would be incomplete with out this album in the library.
Jools is probably the best piano player I've ever heard. No one compares to the the way he pound out tunes--that alone is reason to buy this CD. Since Jools isn't the greatest singer, he has brought in lots of great singers--even Chirs Difford who used to sing along with Jools when they both played for Squeeze. Sting's song is especially good as is "Valentine Moon" and "Nobody but You." Although I love many of the songs, some of them sound stale in comparison. For example, I don't really like the George Harrison tune, even if it is the last song he recorded.
I really enjoyed the CD. I have always been a fan of George Harrison and it is nice that I can have his last recording before his death on the Holland CD. Great Music and the Amazon service was superb as always.
This is the best album they ever did. Very hard to find now a days. This album is a must for your collection.
Pretty good with some super hits and a few misses.
Small World appeared around 1988 and had to top the two previous albums by Mr. Lewis and Co. I was at this time tiring of Huey Lewis and did not even bother to listen to it. MISTAKE!!! This is quite possibly their best. The whole album just rocks from beginning to end and I am looking at it from a stand point of just having bought it in 2008! The production is 80's, but it still works wonderfully due to great musicians and good song writing. Amazing.
