Lil Chase captures in Gwynnie a relatable, funny, lovely character and everyone will be able to sympathise with her anxieties and woes as she discovers who she is. Reading Boys For Beginners I was instantly transported to my fourteen year old self. As someone who grew up with a younger brother and boy neighbours, spending the vast majority of my time playing outdoors with them, I got Gwynnie straight away.
It tests strength, stamina, endurance and even mental agility as some of the clothes require a PhD in mechanics to work out how to do them up. ‘Gwynnie, you just have to try this. Try this one on in a 10 and an 8 and see which is better. This would so go with that goooorgeous little thing over there. You just have to try them together. They pile stuff into my arms and it’s heavier than a thirteen-year-old boy. I know that because we once did an experiment to see if I could pick up Paul

Boys for Beginners is one of my favourites books, I giggled so many times while reading this book. I love how bitchy Jenny is, and the embarrassment coming out from the BB Club. I love all the stupidness coming out from Gwynnie, the main character, as she wanted the hot year 10 guy, Charlie Notts to fancy her. Gwynnie had to ditch the t-shirts and footballs boots and go girlie. I think that this book should make a great film someday.
I'm just saying that if you ever want, like, a boyfriend or anything- not that I think you should get one right now- but if you did want a boyfriend ever, you might have to start being a bit more like a girl than a bo. Thirteen-year-old Gwynnie is just about to turn fourteen. While other girls in her year are all about boys and make-up, the closest she's got to a boy is in a tackle on the football field. But when the totally hot Charlie Notts starts at school, Gwynnie decides now might be the time to start being a girl
