His music was largely ignored during his early life, and many of his works went unperformed for many years. Later in life, the quality of his music was publicly recognized, and he came to be regarded as an "American original".

With support from the Charles Ives. About The first Charles Ives discography, compiled by Richard Warren, was published in 1972.

Composer Charles Ives also disdained those pretty little sounds and the old ladies of both sexes who liked them. In 1931, although he had written all of his Important work by then, he had heard very little of it. In 30 years, he noted, only four conductors had so much as seen any of his scores. Once in a while, the doubted himself ( Are my ears on wrong? ), but those moods passed quickly.
