Barry der Menschenretter (1800–1814), also known as Barry, was a dog of a breed which was later called the St. Bernard that worked as a mountain rescue dog in Switzerland and Italy for the Great St Bernard Hospice. He predates the modern St. Bernard, and was lighter built than the modern breed.

A Stepping Stone Book. Barry and Werner - Training days - Terrible winter - One last rescue. Relates the feats of Barry, the Saint Bernard dog, whose name, to this day, bears the best dog honor at the Saint Bernard Monastery of Switzerland.

Perhaps I was hoping for too much from a kids' book, but I did feel disappointed that so little of Barry's story and the story of the original St. Bernards was told. For example, did you know that after Barry died, he was stuffed?

Through Barryland we arranged a walk with the St. Bernards at the Great St. Bernard Pass, about an hour away. The drive was spectacular and it was fun to walk with the dogs. Our guide for the walk, Lia, was enormously patient.

My granddaughter got this book at the school library and read it to me. It wasn't too long; and we both absolutely LOVED it. I ended up buyed 3 copies for my 2 granddaughters and my great niece. It is an amazing story. This particular book was almost brand new at a great price. Thx!

An early reader about a dog whose job was to find people lost in the snow made a great choice for a 5-year old. She read it over and over when she received it. She loves dog stories.

I bought this for my 9 year old grandson who is a struggling reader. I was looking for a book at his reading level for his genre project. RL 3.1. I read it and found it to be at his reading level and a good based-on-fact story. But there is a part at the beginning where two would-be robbers were directed to the barn where the dogs were kept so they, the dogs, would scare them into leaving without robbing the monks. I decided that was too graphic for my grandson. He loves dogs and he lost his dog about a year ago during surgery.
I also ordered Moonwalk, another Stepping Stone book, and he used that one for his report. It was an excellent book full of good information about the first steps on the moon back in 1969. I highly recommend that book.

The book is ok, but I purchased it as "new." It did not arrive that way. It came with a worn cover and a "Goodwill" sticker on the front. What some folks won't do to make a buck!
I received the book on time. the stories are short to keep there attention I like the book
