Daniel neal was born in London in 1678. He was educated at merchant Taylor's School, and then at the universities of Utrecht and Leiden. f in religious matters, he became the sole miniser of an independent congregation in Aldersgate Street in 1706, and then afterwards in Jewin Street until his death. This history was first published in four volumes between 1732 and 1738. The first volume was attacked by Isaac madox (later bishop of St Asaph and Worcester), but Neal defended himself in a pamphlet.
