Bruce Berger is currently at work on an essay collection set in Iberia and Latin America, and a collection of short pieces, some in the form of nonfiction fables, that use Baja California as a springboard to address such topics as the nature of aesthetics, human psychology, the role of coincidence, scientific phenomena, global warming and the cocktail hour.

But in Bruce Berger's quasi-Main Street house, on that tiny strip of Main that extends west past the S-curves . A note in a new, updated version of the book, The Complete Half-Aspenite, affirms Berger’s station as not completely of Aspen: He’s among that group of ski-town residents who prays for it not to snow. Like the Eskimo I have forty words for snow, though none of them are suitable for a family publication, Berger writes in the introduction to Notes of a Half-Aspenite III, a group of brief, humorous jottings included in The Complete Half-Aspenite.

From the Foreward, written by the author: "The following pieces were written under ideal circumstances: for a dozen years the publisher of 'Aspen Magazine' allowed me to write, uncurbed, on subjects of my choice. A series of editors let themselves be bullied - occasionally by the author's phony threats to quit - into leaving the copy alone. In return I tried not to stray from the topic announced in the magazine's title and, if possible, not to bore. With the first pieces down, and more on the way, I plotted a book on the installment plan, and cheerfully confessed once the publisher suggested gathering them under one cover. But this book grew like coral, not like architecture, and there is no grand plan. There are no disquisitions on mining, skiing, or real estate. Those looking for a reasoned history of Aspen should keep looking, and those who begin with the last page to see how the plot comes out find here a book they can't ruin. Whenever possible these articles modulate into essays, which is to say that facts drop away so that the author can flog his ideas. There is no conscious fabrication, but these pieces were written over time and the truth does not always stay put. Nor is time always sequence. If there is unity to these units, it comes from a town refracted through one sensibility - a sensibility numb to sports and economics, and gluttonous for the arts, birds, eccentrics, lunch, pratfalls, junk, and certain eccentricities of style."
