We got this book for homeschooling, and usually you wouldn't expect a history book to be so detailed and have reviews, tons of questions, lots of detailed pictures, etc. This book has a lot of pages, in the 1000's. This book is very nice! Has a nice choice of maps in the back, detailed descriptions for each unit, chapter, and section, has a detailed sense of writing, has questions for each chapter, section, and unit. Pretty much the best history book out there! We are very excited to begin the school year. This was the first textbook out of 5 that arrived on time, actually 1 day before the estimated delivery. I'd recommend adding up how many days a school year you'll be doing, and then divide the number of pages to find out how many pages you should work on a day. We've decided 2 sections daily. This book is just plain out awesome, hands down. I recommend for anyone who homeschools. :) The awesome thing about this book is, for homeschoolers, you have a nice choice of questions to work on for each section! Very nice. It should be easy to work on yourself!

Excellent perspective on world history. Provides insight into mind set of people living in distant past. Perspective on all classes of population as well as natural conditions that influenced development of cultures. Best history book of early civilization I have seen. GREAT!

This text was considered the most user-friendly in one appraisal, yet its parentheses on pronunciation intrude on the flow of many pages. In some respects the Strayer-Nelson and the von Sivers/Desnoyers/Stow textbooks are more substantive and better written. Duiker aims at the lowest common denominator, which may be defensible in some colleges, but it does not challenge students to read at a higher level. The layout also leaves something to be desired.

This book is written in a very engaging manner by a pair who clearly love history and know what they're talking about. They cover the most important material, with quite a bit of detail, but it's not overwhelming. The book is well laid out visually, making it easy to read. The source material they include is fascinating. This is the best world history textbook I've found. I would recommend it to students from high school through college, or to anyone wanting to learn history for pleasure.

It is a great read; i haven't been able to put it down....yeah right, it's a textbook. It was required by my professor, however, it is very well laid out & it breaks everything down into manageable sections that are easy to understand.

I bought this book as a text book for a World Civilization class I took at Palo Alto College in 2008. Since then, it has been a very good reference for other classes and college term papers. If you're a history major, I'd suggest getting one of the outdated editions to reference when writing papers and doing research assignments.
Way better then the 100 something the campus bookstore tries to sell it for. Good quality book, very little highlighting (looks like the previous owner only paid attention to the class for the first two chapters)
Good, informative book, Great for a history major.
