Next time I would buy the text so at least there would be some sell-back value. Hard to read on Kindle as pages didn't fit well and I had to constantly zoom in and out. If you need the interactive nutrition program to figure out a diet plan, get the text as it is included, otherwise you will need to buy that access code separately and it will end up costing you the same as the hardcover.

I LOVE AMAZONS COLLEGE BOOK RENTAL FEATURE! This kind of stuff is what makes Amazon amazing. The book got to my house in ONE day! The book was exactly what I needed for my class. Easy to return. No marks in the book, which made it easy to read. The book itself is super informational. Well worth a read if you are interested in health and fitness.

Got exactly what I ordered. The books concepts are very one sided and speaks as if it's absolute truth. This book is not the most accurate. Of course this is only my opinion. I would not choose to read this but needed it for class

For the most part, this is a very good book for introducing someone to nutrition. Although it is intended as a textbook, it can also be read for home use. It provides enough basic material about cellular function, digestion, etc. so one can understand the concepts without having taken anatomy and physiology classes.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is personal. The book presents "controversies" at the end of each chapter and provides evidence about nutrition concepts that are hotly debated. For instance, do athletes need to eat more protein and take supplements? Do fad diets work? What about agribusiness methods? The reason I can't endorse this book 100% is because although they do present some of the arguments against genetic engineering and cloning, the overall feeling I get is that they approve of both.

I found this to be a good book on the subject of nutrition in terms of increasing my general understanding (I didn't come w/ a great deal of scientific info on the topic). It was written in an accessible and lucid manner which I had no difficulty understanding w/out an instructor. Also, its style and intent are not strictly "text book" in that they attempt to motivate and inspire people to apply the principles in their daily lives. On the other hand I will concur w/ the other reviewer who made some complaints. When I checked the bibliography for some of the reference articles cited, in certain instances they seemed to only marginally support the claims the author was stating as certainty (I should state that I am not a scientist and did not do any exhaustive studies). Overall I am satisfied I made the purchase and recommend it to someone who wanted to introduce themselves to the topic.

Language used was needlessly archaic. Most of the chemistry included in the text was explained better in my concurrent Biology class. Also there's a clear "GMOs are evil, buy organic" kick from the authors. Thanks but no thanks for politicising the text. If I wanted that, I'd get my nutrition information from Google suggested pages.

Another book purchased for my daughter who needed it for a nutrition class at the "local" state college. She has really enjoyed this book. It is well written and balanced in its comments on various topics that can be controversial for some. One part she found funny was the section on alcohol. The book spend quite a bit of time showing how any alcohol is considered a poison to the human body which tries to eliminate it through various means. Having indicated that there is absolutely nothing positive about using alcohol, the book then ends by recommending that one use it in "moderation." Still, she speaks highly of this book and I would recommend it to any who are interested in nutrition.
Used this for my Nutrition course and found so many helpful and interesting facts in the book. It is full of important information.
