The chapters of this book, which was originally published in 1986, give a broad perspective on the relationship between water, fungi and plants. Water is the solvent for metabolic processes, it participates directly in many biochemical reactions and has a vital skeletal function. It also plays a key role in the behaviour and spread of fungi. The chapters of this book, which was originally published in 1986, give a broad perspective on this vast subject. The contributions were all written by acknowledged experts in their field, and subjects of great practical importance are.

The British Mycological Society is a learned society established in 1896 to promote the study of fungi. The Society was formed based on the efforts of two local societies, the Woolhope Naturalists' Field Club of Hereford and the Yorkshire Naturalists’ Union. The curator of the Hereford club, Dr. . Bull, convinced the members in 1867 to undertake the particular study of mushrooms.

Maurice O. Moss, John E. Smith. This 1984 book resulted from a symposium held by the British Mycological Society to bring together the many diverse areas of study of the genus Fusarium. Among the contributors to this volume were scientists working on applied and fundamental aspects of the subject. The book highlights the importance of the genus pathology, animal husbandry, human disease and as biodeteriogens. Yet other Fusarium spp. are sources of useful biochemicals: for example, one species is utilised for the manufacture of microbial protein for human consumption.

Water is the solvent for metabolic processes, it participates directly in many biochemical reactions and has a vital skeletal function. It also plays a key role in the behaviour and spread of fungi. The chapters of this book, which was originally published in 1986, give a broad perspective on this vast subject. The contributions were all written by acknowledged experts in their field, and subjects of great practical importance are discussed. The bio-deterioration of plant products, such as foodstuffs, grain and timber, the relationship between weather patterns and the likelihood of disease epidemics and the characteristics of pathogenic and mycorrhizal fungi, are described. Overall the book provides a physiological basis that unites the different aspects of the subject area, which had previously been studied in isolation from each other.
