The interactions of hyperons in nuclear matter is investigated in a novel SU(3) approach. sen antiproton annihilation leading to hyperon production and the interactions of secondary beam. of Ξhyperons with nuclei, thus studying specifically the S −2 sector of the theory. A detailed analysis of convergence properties of the iteration method, which is used for the calculation of low-momentum effective potentials Vlowk is presented.

Properties and behavior of hyperons. Since strangeness is conserved by the strong interactions, the ground-state hyperons cannot decay strongly. A combination of three u, d or s-quarks with a total spin of 3/2 form the so-called baryon decuplet. The lower six are hyperons. However, they do participate in strong interactions. 0 may also decay on rare occurrences via these processes: Λ0 → p+ + e− + ν e. Λ0 → p+ + μ− + ν μ. Ξ0 and Ξ− are also known as "cascade" hyperons, since they go through a two-step cascading decay into a nucleon.
