Because of the range of this volume of articles, both historical and thematic, Friedman has succeeded in crystalizing the essence of Focusing. Not only does he describe Gendlin's work, but he illustrates--using a combination of transcripts from his own therapy sessions with clients as well as descriptions of how he uses self-focusing in his own life--how rich the experience of focusing can be as a tool for self-exploration and therapeutic change. Loved this book! It's expensive, but having read two of Gendlin's books, I'd say if you only had $28 to spend, spend it on Friedman's book.

For starters, I know absolutely nothing about the therapy of FOCUSING. Or at least, I didn't until I read this book. Neil Friedman is not only a practitioner of the art of Focusing, but obviously a student of this revolutionary new therapy that has already helped me feel less blocked -- and more open. Thanks, Dr. Neil! And if you buy this book, you'll be thanking yourself next!
