Used for a class. Majority of the references in the text don’t resonate with anyone born in the 90s. Many of my classmates were lost during discussions in class.

I bought this for my class and it was a good read! I actually enjoyed reading this book and it broke things down to a very understandable level. I would read this if you want to know and understand mass media on a deeper level.

I had to purchase this for a college class and am kind of excited to read it. The only problem I have is that I cant see the page numbers so I am not sure how far to read each week or to tell which pages I will actually be quized on.

I had to read this book for a class and it was one I actually didn't mind reading! Most of my textbooks are really dry, but this one uses lots of examples and doesn't try to jam any particular agenda down your throat. I really appreciated that. It presented the information in a way that let me think about the concepts and form my own opinion. We would talk about stuff in class later, using a lot of the examples discussed in the book. It went together really well. If you have to buy this book don't worry! You will actually not mind it!

I can now say that I have read a book that is truly irrelevant and apropos of nothing. I found it to be the literary(?) equivalent of the pet rock. Three uncredentialed, two "unpublished", journalism "professionals" have tried to justify racism in modern mass media. (The one "published" author has written for "Modern Bride" Magazine, "Martha Stewart Living" Magazine, and as a freelance writer from 1995 to the present, has contributed to such renowned periodicals as: "Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion", "Women's Day Holiday Baking", and "Time Out New York".) Being that they are members of the "profession" with a 21% "respect" rating by the American populace, you have to wonder about their chutzpah in even stepping into a field that needs no introdution to most of the American public. Writing about diversity in the mass media sounds about exciting as writing about the physics of evaporation. We all know they are out there, evaporation and racism by the mass media, so who needs a set of references on getting the concepts down? Save your money for a pet rock.
