Structural Functional Rural Sociology Internationally, rural sociology has been dominated by American writers. Even though there are rural sociologists in many other countries of the world, including Canada, who are members of the Rural Sociological Society (RSS), nevertheless the paradigm employed by rural sociologists was very much American.
