This book has been assigned for my first grad course in family counseling. It is an excellent book, well written and helpful.

Be careful if you buy the version labeled "Mass Market Paperback." It's actually an international version meant to only be sold in India. International versions are usually only very slightly different from the normal version, but if that's something that is important to you I suggest you buy the regular version and not the one labeled Mass Market Paperback.

Skiletus

The book was accurate and the information was pretty easy to understand however, it fell apart after its first use. When I turned the page the papers would come out from the spine (center) as if it were not put together well by the manufacturer. Literally about 100 pages fell out the book! I afraid to turn the pages! I was not too aggressive either. This is the WORST put together book I have every own and I own hundreds! VERY DISAPPOINTED! And there are typos! I would caution you about that if you get the book. I would recommend getting a digital version of this book.

I purchased this book as a part of a class requirement for a grad school course in the counseling program. Most who are searching for this book are probably in the same position I was in. It is a good book (not too wordy or boring) and when you read it, you will feel like you are actually getting a lot of useful information in order to become an effective counselor. The chapters aren't super long, but each covers enough information to give you a good start with your future profession. I decided to keep the book for my own personal library after the class was completed because I feel like I will be able to refer back to it, while in grad school and even once I graduate. I have even used it so far as a reference in some of my other classes. So, if you are looking for a good guidance book to help develop/enhance your counseling skills, this would be a good one to start.

The book that was sent to me was not the one in the picture. I ordered the one with the orange cover and like water on it. I was sent one with a different cover; beige with a human head made up of jigsaw puzzle pieces. The content of the book is the same, however the page numbers are different from the one the professor is using, therefor when she says, "turn to page ???", I have to look for the page in my book. That's the only thing I didn't like.

Easy to read, as far as textbooks are concerned. I enjoyed this book.

Still working through this book, I am enjoying what I'm reading so far. It is very informational providing the intro and basics for students new to the counseling profession. There is a lot to unpack and learn not so much insight into case studies more an overview of the profession for those who are not familiar.
