Used at Western Washington University in 2008. I really enjoyed reading this and found myself doing additional reading on top of required homework, which says a lot for a college student. The material is easy to understand yet thought-provoking.

Like most people, I rely on honest product reviews to make purchase decisions. Because the experience of others has been so helpful to me, I try to provide honest, helpful reviews to assist other shoppers in selecting the right products for them. I hope my review has been helpful to you!
I read this book during a Race, Gender and Ethnicity Communication Studies course. I really enjoyed the broad selection of readings, and liked the "current debates" sections which provide a variety of perspectives on contemporary dialogues about Affirmative Action, Columbus Day, Reparations, Immigration and more. The book also provides historical context for race relations in the U.S.

If you're close-minded about race, ethnicity and gender, then you probably won't enjoy the book.
I could not believe how slanted this book is. Joseph Healey paints whites and Christians as potential closet racists. He makes a point to say they are all "proud to be American". In fact if you do not believe there is discrimination or that some minority groups are responsible for their own situations you are a "Modern Racist".

Want to get a definiton of "reverse racism" in this book about racism? Nope. Won't find it. It was amazing how Healey doesn't even try to look unbiased.

If you hate America and want to blame whites for everything (even though according to Healey whites can't be considered a minority even where they might be fewer in numbers) you will love this book. Don't expect too many facts though.
