Alison Jay has done it again!

She is just such a wonderful artist. Big, bold, and bright colors used, and she always repeats and connects pictures on each page, so there is always something to look at. Nothing likes those dumb children's books you see out there in Barnes and Noble.

We own almost her whole collection and my daughter LOVES them since she was 6 months old (she's now 2 years and still looks at them every night).

Highly recommended!

This book is great. Maybe the previous reviewers who said that the story is weak, missed the point of the story. The characters leave from England to New York. Although the book does not explicitly say it, you can infer that the Tortoise crossed the Atlantic on a slow ship. The Hare, in all his arrogance, thinking he is so fast, veered East, galavanting all over the world. He took the long route. A colleague of mine read this book to her first graders and then we turned it into a mini geography lesson, marking on a map all the different places Hare travelled This is a great book for introducing the world map, geography an the cardinal points to children. The pictures tell much of the story by showing different monuments.

We purchased this book for our toddler this past Christmas. We've read it a few times since. I absolutely love these illustrations and the modern twist on the tale but I'm not so sure my son cares yet. Maybe if the story were more engaging. I agree with the other reviews that refer to the text as weak. It does seem awkardly worded on some pages. I wanted to give it a solid 3.5 stars but the system wouldn't let me, so I gave it 3. I am happy to have such a beautifully illustrated book in my son's library. I just wish that it were better told.

This is a play on the classic version on this story. I think the story is akwardly layed out and that there isn't much to it. I LOVE Alison Jay's illustrations, in fact that's what made me decide to buy it. The story didn't live up to my expectations.
