Haven't I read the story of Scott Scurlock before?, and by Ann Rule?

It wouldn't be the first time that Ann Rule's stories ended up in new books, with different titles, by Ann Rule. And as I kept reading this it kept getting more and more familiar so I sat down at my computer and looked it up again on Amazon. Sure enough this is the same story of the good looking kid who lived in a Treehouse in Olympia (if I remember right). This story had stuck out in my mind because having lived in the NW and, in fact, taking Revenna to get to where I lived (which Scurlock did) after he robbed his last bank, I really got into that book. But why are we seeing (and paying for) it again? I don't recall being informed that this book had
been published once before several years ago.

Ann Rule is one of my favorite authors. However in this book I feel she made the wrong choice for the crime she chose for the longer book. I skipped over a lot of the descriptions of the cops parents history, as I didn't see the reason for it. Also, the crime, bank robbery, wasn't especially interesting , as you didn't feel the need for them to be caught in order to prevent another robbery, whereas you would want them caught asap with a murder. Also the robbers were simply greedy, stupid and weak men, so nothing special about them either. I thought that Kevin, the brother of one of the robbers should have turned them into the police, as anyone of those robberies could easily have resulted in a murder. Any of the short stories in the book would have been a better choice to be the longer book.

The End of The Dream needs to be made into a televison movie as that's how it feels while reading it. Like you are in the middle of a fascinating movie with a plot created by amazing writers. Sadly, everything is true and it is an incredibly unbelievable series of events which Ann Rule handled with her usual depth and skill. I could not put this book down. Reading about the lives of the people in the novel length part of the book was like watching a train wreck in slow motion and wishing you could prevent it. You felt for these people, even as you saw them clearly heading down the wrong road. The other true cases are just as interesting and this is a must read for all fans of True Crime and Ann Rule. Do not pick this book up until you have time to devote to it, as you also, will be lured in and unable to put it down.

I'm all for giving children the freedom to grow up to be who they truly are as individuals -- and that's definitely not necessarily the same as being just like their parents. However, as both a teacher and a parent, I can speak to the fact that children also desperately need structure and boundaries. They need to learn how to make their own decisions . . . but NOT without the consequences of those decisions. To do less is to do them a grave disservice. Somehow, Scotty missed this life lesson, and it destroyed him . . . as well as numerous others, innocent friends and relatives. I kept wanting to shake him and scream, "Don't you realize where this is heading?????" Alas, he either didn't, or didn't care.
This is also yet another cautionary true tale of the fact that people aren't always what they appear to be on the outside. Beware . . .
Ann Rule again did a fine job!

I had read this story about Hollywood several years ago. Ann Rule when into great depth of his background and his day to day living and made the story a lot more complete for me. What fascinates me besides all the bank robberies and how he thought it was okay to not work and live on other peoples money is the fact that his father still blames the FBI for his son's death. It always amazes me how a parent can think his child didn't deserve what he got when all he ever did in life was steal from others. Great book even if you are familiar with the story and have read about it before.

Each time Ann has a book hit the stands, its an instant best seller. The reason? She KNOWS her subject matter inside and out. As a previous member of law enforcement (not to mention having been raised in a family of law enforcement people) Ann knows where to go and who to talk to in order to get the real facts of the story. Not one to go after the FAMOUS cases (altho her book on Ted Bundy -A Stranger Beside Me - was written about one of the biggest serial killer of his time....and done from a personal perspective due to her unknowing aquaintence with Mr Bundy!) she tackles the difficult ones. She talks to the familys - she gets the information from other officers and court personnel that other writers only wish they could talk with. Ann gets to the heart of the story - she makes the victim real and vibrant. She can get into the head of the suspect in a way many others can't. And she can still write a story that lets the reader understand in some way the mind of the perp. Each of her Collection Books is better than the last. Anyone who loves a good true crime story should pick up one of Ann Rule's books. Reading the Golden Boy - one truly can see why this man felt he could get away with anything at all. EVEN murder.

Ann is in the top of her league with her writings. I am proud to say I own every book she has written - and I await each new one anxiously. Guaranteed - once you start any of her books, you will never let it down until the last page.

A great real life adventure featuring the Hollywood Robber, Scott Scurlock, son of a preacherman, all happened in my backyard. I rooted for the bandit the entire time. Sorrowful ending. An extraordinary lifestyle involving intense work environment then vacation time in foreign islands, with devoted friends who built him a fantasy world tree house. $2,300,000 in 4 years. What more would any self respecting male want out of life? Read almost all Rules books. This was by far the best.
Never read one of her books that I didn't absolutely love!????????????????????????????????????She was the absolute besr! Her characters are so real and her writing style is unmatched!I highly recommend any and all of her books ????
