Realistic
It is ironic that the American Library Association advocates open access and has made significant progress in regards to providing open access to some of its key journals, such as College & Research Libraries, yet its book publishing unit is selling a 352 page, 6 x 8.8 inch paperback book for an $85 list price. No one expects print books to be free, but selling them at a price that individuals can afford should not be beyond reach even for specialized works such as this. The lack of a low-cost Kindle edition is an egregious decision. There is a considerable amount of timely, detailed information about digital preservation freely available on the Internet, and several book-length bibliographies are freely available that organize and link to these works. So, the reader must decide how "practical" it is to pay $85 for this book. If a book-length treatment is needed, the 2014 Digital Preservation for Libraries, Archives, and Museums by Edward M. Corrado and Heather Lea Moulaison at $34.49 for the Kindle edition and $60 list for the paperback should be considered. Although the print version of this authoritative book is still expensive, it is $25 less than Brown's book and the Kindle version is reasonably affordable.
