Truly profound. I am never disappointed by Rabbi Lawrence Kushner. He seems to "live in deep places," and his reflections on Texts in dialogue with life always guide me. Most of the time I have no idea where they will lead me, but such is Life's Mystery! The Psalmist said, "Deep calls unto deep," and Kushner's depth of soul reaches out to the depths in his readers--helping all of us stretch our limits a bit--helping us to find deeper places in our own tortured souls. I can't remember when I first read this book--perhaps 20 years ago?--anyway, it was shortly after it was published, whenever that was. But, I must have read it 7 or 8 times since. I tend to do that with all his books. This one, though, is very special, and I've recommended it to friends and given it as a gift on many occasions.

I love everything thing that Rabbi Kushner writes. He is intelligent, poetic, thought-provoking, a wonderful spiritual guide and teacher. The River of Light is a book that should be read by anyone who wishes to challenge their spiritual mind and heart. This book has helped me think of angles of self-reflection I otherwise may not have.

Like William this book is a must on my shelf. I am replacing the copy that went home in my daughter's suitcase. It is the kind of book that draws a person to it time and again. Rabbi Kushner is truly a pleasure to read.
