After establishing von Balthasar’s place in twentieth-century fundamental theology, the article presents the general outlines of his wor and, therefore, to some degree, his apologetics. This is done by explaining some structural features of three brief works: Razing the Bastions: On the Church in this Age which constitutes the pars destruens and clears the basis on which to build; Love Alone is Credible which represents the pars construens and was written when some volumes of Gloria had already been published; and finally, Epilogue which provides the final justification.

Only 4 left in stock (more on the way). I have had the pleasure of reading many of the shorter works of Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-1988), one of the great intellects and theologians of the Vatican II era. The Epilogue is as he states a summary of sorts-a micro summary that leaves out much from his massive 16 volumes on the glory, drama and beauty of the Lord-an enterprise that encompassed much of von Balthasar's life's work. Reading it is a pleasure. It is not bedtime reading.
