The Laws of Spirit opens with the story of Dan Millman’s encounter with a sage in the wooded hills near his home. Dan teaches worldwide and has influenced people from all walks of life, including leaders in the fields of health, psychology, education, business, politics, sports, entertainment and the arts. A book passed to me by my 78 yr old spiritual er. Through stories, tests, and experiences in the wild, the sage challenges Millman to examine 12 core principles that underlie human existence: balance, choice, process, presence, compassion, faith, expectation, integrity, action, cycles, surrender, and unity. Dan Millman's "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" was the very first piece of spiritual literature I read, back in college.

The Laws of Spirit, Dan Millman's "little book of big wisdom," offers a teaching tale in which he encounters an ageless woman sage while on a mountain hike. There, in the wilderness, she takes Dan and his readers through experiences and tests in the natural world that demonstrate the power of spiritual laws of balance, choice, process, presence, compassion, faith, action, patience,, surrender, and unity. As the sage relates, "These laws belong to all of us. They rest within our hearts and at the heart of every religion and spiritual tradition.

Different laws played critical roles for different paths. But Millman felt that these laws deserved a book of their own, and a more universal treatment, since anyone could benefit from applying any of these laws. The book adheres to the tried and tested format of the seeker meeting the sage, and they have an ensuing conversation where the . Also, Millman gets right to the point and does not wander off on tangents, which is appreciated.

It’s kind of hackneyed, to say the least, but is saved by the fact that the chapters are very short and focused. Each chapter averages about eight pages in length. As with most books of this nature, you get out of it what you bring to it. For those starting on a spiritual path, many of the concepts may be new, fresh perspectives

While hiking in the mountains, Millman encounters a mysterious woman sage who invites him on "a mission of great importance." Over the course of several days and nights, she uses the mountain wilderness as a means to reveal the "laws that make life work." The Law of Spirit represents Millman's most accessible and far-reaching vision of spiritual growth to date. 2 cassettes.

This book was written as many new thought spiritual books are, with a scenario of the wise, condescending spiritual master who responds to most questions with a patronizing amusement toward the ignorant human. Similar to "Conversations with God." If you can get past that, there is some helpful information in there. I will go back and highlight what is useful which, when taking out all the superfluous "conversations," will cut down the book considerably. It's worthy buying for the basic information presented.

Love, love, love this book! A friens lent it to me from the library. I read it, then reread it again, then bought three copies, one for me, one for my mother, and one to give as a gift to a friend. This book came into my life at such the perfect moment, it has become somewhat of a bible for me. On those days that I feel down, or discouraged I flip through this book, to the law I randomly open up to, and that is the Law I focus on that day. Love it! Great book! Buy it! Read it! Give it to a friend or family member! So worth the money spent!

If you are a Dan Millman fan, this book will not disappoint. In it, Millman's character meets a female sage who takes him on a few days' journey through nature near his home. She reveals to him 12 Laws to Live By which are both practical and spiritual at the same time. (For that matter, one of the key points as subttext is that spiritual IS practical.) I have written down the 12 laws and have begun to work with them to focus my own practices and keep me on the highest path I can manage at this moment....every moment.

If you are not familiar with Millman, he is the author of The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, an all-time best seller which was also made into a very good Nick Nolte movie. Millman is in addition a world-class gymnast-cum-life coach. His work is an inspiration and a practical guide to living a better life. The Laws of Spirit just reinforces his earlier books and clarifies some of his key concepts.

The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that this book is in some ways a re-hash of the concepts in previous ones, rather than a totally new and therefore astonishing work. Nonetheless, it offers great insights and wonderful guidance while also entertaining. When trying to improve, one is always grateful for this kind of clear and engaging help.

This book was recommended by a friend who seemed too enthusiastic about the content of the book. She made it sound interesting and said it was short and an easy read. I like to read so I thought why not. I was hooked after a couple pages. It gives a different perspective of principles we may already be aware of or know as well as a practical application of them. I'd read it again and again and recommend it too.

I read my copy of this book annually and glean something new with each reading. I've given it to friends and family, young and old. It's a "story" full of life lessons that are easily understood without postulating a particular belief. I've read several of Dan Millman's books.

"The Laws of Spirit" is a wonderful tale through which the author has woven 12 essential laws to live by - laws that, when brought to our awareness, and utilized, can literally change your life!

The story is based around a man who has recently begun both a physical & spiritual journey, and the sage he meets along the way. This sage teaches him about each of the 12 laws, providing wonderful examples & showing him how to apply each one to every-day life.

I love that each "law" is explained in "down-to-earth" language and that, due to the examples given, it becomes quite easy to see how they can be used to better our lives on a day-to-day basis.

"The Laws of Spirit" is a relatively small book, as it can easily be read in 1 or 2 sittings. However, I would suggest either keeping the book handy so that you can re-read it, or taking some notes so that you can easily be reminded of the many insights given. (I chose to take notes, so it took me a little bit longer to finish the book - but I now have the info. I need to put into practice all that I learned).

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in spirituality & personal growth. It's an easy, interesting read, that is jam packed with wonderful insights.

Dan Millman is a great author and spiritual guru of sorts. His insight into the laws of the universe, and how to apply them to every day life, is on point and realistic.
