If you are a Margaret Way fan, you probably would find it ok. I do like her writing style so I am keeping the book . I do like her writing style so I am keeping the book to reread again. There's pages of flowery descriptions- this might be Ms Way's style, but since this is the first book I've read by her, I cannot say. I read a passage to my husband, and he laughed.

From the back cover:
To Lang Frazer, Natalie was just a spoiled, heartless girl who reveled in hurting her father and her stepmother, Britt. But Natalie, saw Britt as the woman who had ruined her relationship with her father. How could she regard Lang with anything but resentment? And what business was it of his anyway?

Well.... I liked it, but the dialogue was a little choppy sometimes and the main characters didn't really seem all that interested in each other until the end of the book. It was not my idea of a romance, just a story with some strange characters in it. Is was written in the mid 70's and is very dated so maybe that accounts for the strangeness of the book. If you are a Margaret Way fan, you probably would find it ok. I do like her writing style so I am keeping the book to reread again.

Although he found her physical charms most irresistible, Lang Frazer clung stubbornly to the notion that Natalie Calvert was a spoiled, heartless young woman who reveled in hurting her father and stepmother.

Still, he was determined to bring her back to her father's home where he felt she was needed during a current crisis. The difficulties Natalie encountered there were heightened by the jealousy of another woman... and her growing attraction for Lang.

Her father, Drew, ill from a stroke, Natalie, 22, is brought home after a 5 year absence by Lang Frazer, her father's partner in their architectural firm. Lang has heard stories from his cousin, Britt, who is Drew's second wife. Britt has told everyone that Natalie was the cause of her, Britt, losing her child. This is untrue, but Britt puts on a good show and Lang and her father believe her.

Natalie and Lang are attracted to each other, and Lang gradually gets to know her, finally refuting what his cousin has said. Natalie falls in love with Lang, yet feels she is losing herself...or some other nonsense.

There's pages of flowery descriptions- this might be Ms Way's style, but since this is the first book I've read by her, I cannot say. I read a passage to my husband, and he laughed. The dialog is worse. The hero and heroine seem to be talking in code or maybe it is just the author trying to write in 'hip' jargon of the 70s. As it is, the dialog comes across as odd in its phrasing, content, and flow. Hero to Natalie and her date at a club: "I thought I'd come over and pay you a call, not that either of you look as though you need any stimulus." Reminds me of material translated from another language, but not quite right.

The story drags and is boring. The characters are flat and never come alive. There's no romance, just Natalie agonizing and Lang's icy blue eyes peeling back her layers of skin. Skip this and find something else to read!
