Discover Loretta Chase. After a heroic attempt to be an English major forever, Loretta Chase stoically accepted her degree but kept on reading and writing. As well as working in academe, she had an enlightening if brief life in retail and a Dickensian six-month experience as a meter maid. In the course of moonlighting as a corporate video scriptwriter, she succumbed to the charm of a producer, who lured her into writing novels - and marrying him. The union has resulted in what seems like an awful lot of books and quite a few awards, including the Romance Writers of America’s Rita.

The Sandalwood Princess. To my husband, Walter. Though the house Hemu had so nervously entered was finer than any he could aspire to, it seemed at first far too modest for the powerful woman who dwelt here. Yet perhaps her secluded abode did suit the Rani Simhi. She was the princess of secrets. Even her true name was no longer spoken. The great Lioness, the most dangerous woman in all India, might live precisely where and as she chose.

The princess affected not to hear it. I was many years a younger woman than you when a Punjab prince conquered my father’s kingdom, she said

It was said Anumati had abandoned the defiled place and taken all joy with her. The temple grounds were considered accursed. The princess affected not to hear it. I was many years a younger woman than you when a Punjab prince conquered my father’s kingdom, she said. When this conqueror investigated his new domain, he made two discoveries. Determined to uncover who stole her sandalwood statue, Amanda Cavencourt is shocked to learn the culprit is a notorious rogue known as the Falcon. Why would a man renowned for his dangerous and delicate missions indulge in petty thievery? Intrigued by the mystery-and rumors of the Falcon's devilish charm and good looks-Amanda sets out on the trail of the brazen blackguard. Ms. Chase has crafted another precious keeper.

The Sandalwood Princess book.

I love Loretta Chase. I’ve read all the more recent Loretta Chase books and was desperate for more. The Sandalwood Princess is delightful. Love the anti-hero and the heroine. Decided to go back to her earlier works and I’m not disappointed.

It swept down suddenly upon the Evelina in a gale-driven, whirling mass of black clouds that swelled and churned round the lone vessel, heaving up the waters beneath her.

y, the crew took in the sails just as the storm roared down upon them. It was already raging when the top-gallant yards were sent down and the masts struck. Philip, who’d never experienced a major storm at sea, stayed after the other landlubbers had gone below, but not long. A tremendous swell sent the vessel lunging perilously to port, and Philip skidding across the wet deck toward.

The Kindle version needs way better proofreading. The rotten proofreading is distracting and even confusing at times. For instance, when the hero exclaims that the thieving heroine is a "bitcb," the impact isn't quite what I imagine the author intended.

I don't think this is one of Loretta Chase's best novels, but if you're like me, you're happy to read anything written by her. She stays true to the romance genre while still keeping the characters and plot original. This romance spans from India to England. There is an entertaining heist aspect to the novel as well. If you're looking for explicit sex scenes, this isn't the book for you. If you're entertained by reversals and revelations, then you might like it if you can tolerate REALLY BAD PROOFREADING.

I love Loretta Chase. I hated this book. It was crazy. I didn't want to click any of the boxes about the plot or the mood or the pace or the characters, but Amazon wouldn't let me write a review without checking something.

Usually Loretta Chase writes stunning dialogue and decent plots and characters for whom I can root and care. None of this here. The plot is CRAZY. It makes no sense at all. None. Back and forth to India as if we were on the Concord (yes, I am aware the Concord never went to India and no longer exists... it's a metaphor, okay?). I can't even get into the particulars except to say -- COME ON, they didn't even use disguises so why didn't they know who was who???? Convoluted from start to finish.

And in other developments: Worst. Proofreading. Ever.

I enjoyed reading this story, but I had been warned from reading other reviews that this was not a romance novel, but a different type of story altogether. More like The Prisoner of Zenda (can't remember author) or the Captain Blood stories by Raphael Sabatini (which were turned into Errol Flynn movies)

Others have described plot and pros/cons so I won't repeat.

This is an early Loretta Chase and its fun to watch an author develop her style and find her voce.

The typos in this kindle editions are unbelievably bad. Only a $2.99 price tag makes the typos bearable.

If this is the future of electronic publishing -- accepting really bad published documents because they're cheap--Amazon hasn't done us any favors.

I throughly enjoyed this novel. It was a refreshing change from the typical regency novel. Probably 3/4ths of the story unfolds in India or on a boat. The heroine, Amanda Cavencourt is not your typical fauning heroine. She enjoys living in India and spending time with her mentor, Rani Simhi. Rani Simhi is a beautiful and powerful woman scorned. Rani delights in spinning tails about men & love, and exerting her influence over others. She gives Ms. Cavendish a figurine, the sandal wood princes. Enter the illusive and mysterious Falcon, an infamous thief renowned in India who has never been caught. He is after the treasure and the adventure begins.

The descriptions of the setting were interesting and different. The adventuresome quality kept the pages turning and the romantic tension experienced by the hero and heroine had me rooting for the couple to overcome their differences and experience "happily ever after." I think my favorite quality of the book was its feminist tone. The romance is pg-13 and just enough. There were some minor editing issues with the kindle version, but it was still well worth the read! Highly recommended.

How can I describe original? Original plot with exotic India location and mythology. Two unique people come together: a warm, loving heroine with a core of steel and a dubious, multifaceted, damaged hero with confused ethics. And behind it all the Rani, a Hindu princess pulls the strings. Absolutely a great romance filled with surprises. My only regret is that I can't give more than five stars.

Loretta Chase is one of my favorite authors. THE SANDALWOOD PRINCESS is no exception. Her writing is crisp and beautiful, her descriptions immerse the reader in the story, and her characters are always memorable. So many times I read a book and quickly forget the story and characters, but this is NOT true with Loretta Chase.
This story includes spurned love, obsession, assault, thievery, torture, deceit, poison, a sea voyage and a friendship with ill-advised attraction between Philip and Amanda. And that is only the first part of the book! A and P have so many secrets. This is quite an unusual love story!
