Book 1 of 2 in the Seven Realms of Ar'rothi Series. The Spirit Child is the beginning of a new series that I will definitely be following. The story line is very unique, and the characters well developed. I do not like to give away story surprises, and because of the unique storyline I am hesitant to say much more. The premise of Indian totems has been carried out to make them visible and interactive. The evil lurking is actually coming from another plane.

Book 2 of 2 in the Seven Realms of Ar'rothi Series. I would also recommend reading Spirit Child first before reading book 2. I should also mention there is a short sexy scene between Healer Becca and her lover Nashotah, a female Shona healer. Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog.

"The Spirit Child seems a mystical work, flavored with Alaskan frontierism, Native American mysticism, and a lot of human interest...I want to know these people. It is a healing piece of work, far beyond just a good read." A. Ross To the Shona who took her captive, the 8-year-old child is nothing more than property, lower even than the animals she tends. For most of her life she survived by being a shadow, watching her captors as they communed with their Spirit Guides and listening as they recited their legends around their fires. She knows about the seven gods and the Seven Realms and about the Holy Spirit Guides who travel the pathways to mentor those willing to heed their advice. What she doesn't know is that recently, the oldest of the Guides, the Black Panther, Denabi, has sensed a maleficence stalking both the pathways and the child. As Denabi investigates the source of the evil, she soon comes to realize that the salvation of the Seven Realms may lie in the hands of an orphan considered so insignificant by her captors that they've never even given her a name.

I love Alison Holt's writing. Door At the Top of The Stairs is one of my favorite books. I didn't know what to expect from this book when I read the blurb saying it was a bit of a mix in with Narnia. I got hooked from the very beginning and wanted to just keep reading and reading more. What a disappointment when the book ended. I will definitely be reading the next in the series. Keep em coming, Alison.

Did I miss it?
Where was the lesbian stuff in this story?
I was shocked to read the reviews and see that some folks were upset about the "lesbian " part.
Any way ,I loved this story. The idea of spirit guides and a rebellious child who will be able to save everyone,if she survives,2 capable women,no 3,I forgot Nashotah are a pleasure to read about.
Now we have to wait for the next book.
Since I've enjoyed reading all of Alison Holts books,I'm going to wait patiently for each new addition.
Thanks,Pat

This author is a cut above, and all her books are worth reading.

Her Credo series is a blast, and The Door at the Top of the Stairs is seriously well done. I have read them all more than once.

First off, my favorite genre of books is Fantasy. That being said, in my opinion Alison can hold her head up proudly with her contribution. I loved this book! I loved the characters and how the story unfolded. Miss Holt has a way of keeping the readers attention with every page. I thouroughly enjoyed this first volume to her new series and can't wait for the second one to be available. I don't want to give any of the story away but if you love Fantasy books, this one is well worth your time. Thank you Alison for yet another great book!

I read The Spirit Child in one sitting; once I started I couldn't put it down and I will be following the series. This book will hold your attention with every page. I love a book where the main characters are smart, stubborn, kick-ass women! The author does an awesome job at describing a fantasy world in a way that captures your imagination. I definitely recommend this book.
