The Doctor's traveling companion, Evelyn, has dropped in on one of her students who is having a difficult time. She is trying to tell her a story in such a way as to help her through her difficulties. But she is having a difficult time deciding what to take out and what to leave in, what to emphasize and what to mention briefly, and perhaps a bit of trouble remembering it all. The student is finding that she is not at all interested in pirate stories, so the Doctor tries to liven it up with a bit of singing.

Very entertaining, quite silly but still with a bit of a point if you're able to keep track of it all.

This has to be one of the oddest Big Finish doctor who episodes that I've ever listened to.

The first CD was an odd mixture of a visit to an acquaintance of Dr Evelyn Smythe where the story of Dr. Who and the pirates is told to her.

It is a tad uneven as the telling of the story twists and then even is corrected in mid telling.

It is the 3rd episode that is really odd in that it becomes a musical with several different numbers including the "I am a very model of a Gallifreyan Buccanner" which is a joy.

The final cd becomes very profound. Much like the formula of Dr. Who the Holy Terror, but it doesn't lose the sense of comedy that is within.

You might love it or hate it but it is certainly different.

I just listened to this one, and absolutely loved Colin Baker's "I am the very Model of a Gallifreyan Buccaneer". Check at bigfinish.com for a downloadable version.
