New deals hatch every day! The Werewolf Principle. 1. The creature halted, crouched low against the ground, staring at the tiny points of light that lay ahead, burning softly through the darkness.

New deals hatch every day! The Werewolf Principle. He put up his hand and scrubbed his head in perplexity and the water he squeezed out of his hair ran down across his face. The rain, which had slackened for a moment, began beating at him once again with a fresh enthusiasm and he turned toward the house. Not his house, surely, but it was a house and there’d be someone there to tell him where he was an. ut tell him where he was! That was insane!

It was absurd, of course. In just a little while-in another minute, if not less-this illustration from a children’s book would simply go away and he could get on with his fishing. I’m starving, said the illustration.

It was absurd, of course. The people who usually set out food for me have gone on a vacation.

Clifford Simak’s, The Werewolf Principle, is a thought provoking story about where we are going as a race of people and by that I mean the human race. The plot drives forward like a speeding truck and you’ll find yourself rooting for the characters. In 1967 I signed up for the Science Fiction Book Club and The Werewolf Principle was on of the trio I chose. I remembered it fondly but it was lost many moves ago. This is a great story, with terrific narration about life and what it means to be human. Simak was the pastoralist of science fiction and his love of simple virtues is radiant in this book.

Simak was best known for the book City, a reaction to the horrors of World War II, and for his novel Way Station. In 1953 City was awarded the International Fantasy Award, and in following years, Simak won three Hugo Awards and a Nebula Award. In 1977 he became the third Grand Master of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and before his death in 1988, he was named one of three inaugural winners of the Horror Writers Association’s Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Great copy of 1st hardcover edition! Was a great bargain price for good used book. Just wish some sellers would use bar-code inventory stickers that are easier to remove, without damage to book covers and dust jackets.... Some great old books I bought on Amazon came with such stickers (usually on spine, on the original dust jacket...) A minor gripe, but Sellers need to Listen to us Customers. Or we will look elsewhere - like eBay (where you often see photo images of exact item condition).... Thank-You!

Simak was the pastoralist of science fiction and his love of simple virtues is radiant in this book. Scene after scene remained in my mind after half a century. Do read this one.

A free standing book, no series that I know of. Space Opera, meet Urban Fantasy. Or, does it?

I loved the portrayal of the Earth in 2466? AD. An amazingly positive story of a utopia spreading to the stars. And, not very dated even though the book was published in 1967. People's homes resettling themselves constantly using anti-gravity drives is totally cool.

Book starts out in a very confusing way but it all becomes clearer as the book progresses. Really enjoyed this one, and Simak even snuck in some references to other books he's written. Good stuff!

I read this years ago as a teenager.
I still love the story 60 years later!
Clifford Simak sure can write...

I read this as kid and adult. And I still enjoy the book. It is a little slow to modern readers but wait for it. Which is more human? The thinker, the beast, the every man. The book does not answer this but lets you decide.

There's a reason he was voted "Grand Master" by his peers
This was a good read, just not one of his best. Worth the time to read it though, it kept me interested all the way through. Simak is known for his long narratives and this is no different.
