I use these with my second grade class as we do our planet reports, but we end up using these after we've found all the important information in other books. Then we browse through his books to find what we call "special information" (extra information about what makes our planet special). Like all Seymore Simon books, it has really great photos, which makes learning come to life for students. This book was in excellent condition, and a great resource in my room.

Seymour Simon's big books on the planets are beautiful. Earth" has photographs from space of our entire planet, and some gorgeous ones of mountain ranges and continents. The text that goes along with the photographs explain simply about Earth's rotation (and how this produces day and night,) its position in the solar system, what Earth looks like from the moon, Earth's orbit around the Sun and seasons. We learn about the atmosphere and about different surfaces of the Earth. The type is very lar Seymour Simon's big books on the planets are beautiful.

Contains photographs taken from space. A basic introduction to the solar system and Earth's place in it, seasons, and Earth's topography. Contains photographs taken from space.

This intimate and beautiful study of Earth investigates the relationship between our planet, the sun, and the moon.

The writing was on the perfect level for a K/1st-grader and the images (beautiful color images) held my and my son's interest. It is such a quality book that it seems more like a "gift" or keepsake book than something I'd find jammed on the shelf at the library.

NASA scientists have discovered a planet that is in the habitable zone: it. .It is about 20% larger than our planet and revolves around a red dwarf - a small, relatively cold star - in 37 days.

An exoplanet (that is, a planet outside the solar system) receives 86% of the energy that the sun gives the earth from the star.

On 24 October 1946, rocket scientists captured the first images of Earth taken from space. The resulting images, developed from film dropped back to Earth in a tough steel canister, were like nothing that had been seen before. Until this point, the highest vantage point from which photos had been taken was some 22 km, aboard a high-altitude balloon. The balloon pictures had shown the curvature of the Earth at the horizon, but the rocket photos opened new possibilities.

The time difference between these images ranges from five to 100 years. Pedersen Glacier, Alaska. Summer, 1917 - summer, 2005. Aral Sea, Central Asia. August, 2000 - August, 2014.

The majesty of our planet can be difficult to describe. In 2009 the NASA astronaut visited the Hubble Space Telescope, some 350 miles above the planet, on a mission to fix the beloved eye in the sky for the last time. Hubble’s gaze is perpetually turned toward outer space, but tethered next to the massive observatory, Massimino was entranced by Earth. With verdant South American rain forests, rugged African deserts, and sparkling city lights spread out below him, the planet looked like a paradise.
