The Deer of North America

The Deer of North America. Rue, a deer expert and wildlife photographer, draws on his own knowledge of deer behavior and his exhaustive reading of the scientific literature to produce a book on whitetails that is both scientifically accurate and eminently readable by the layperson. This book is informative beyond anyone's wildest curiosities about deer. The pictures are helpful, the descriptions are spot on, and I was especially pleased to see so many chapters covering behavior and anatomy. From what deer like to eat, to the different breeding cycles as it pertains to geography, this book has it all. Even information I never wondered about before, such as how far and for how long a deer can swim! If you love deer, you'll love this book. My only regret is that this book is limited only to North American species - I would love to see a book like this about the more exotic chital, fallow, or marsh deer.

I have read many books about deer hunting. This book is by far the most comprehensive book about deer that I have ever read. Although it is not only directed towards hunters (but for providing info about deer), it provides invaluable information for hunters. I think this book is a must for anyone who wants to improve their knowledge about deer, or hunt deer.
