I really wanted to like this book since I value a concise approach, but I think it fails to lay a solid foundation for understanding (at least multivariable) calculus. I'm only familiar with Ch.10-13 because it was required for a calc 3 class. The problem with its approach is that it quickly explains new concepts, making sense only half the time, then launches into examples where it skips important logical steps in problem setup. Stating a problem and then immediately writing the relevant theorem without any discussion doesn't teach "mathematically rigorous" thinking as so many instructors seem to love Stewart for, and it doesn't lay the foundation for creative application of the concepts in physics.

If you have to get this book for a class, sorry. Watching Khan Academy videos was helpful for me, just know that Sal doesn't cover stuff in the same order as the book or most classes, and doesn't give much attention to difficult double/triple integral problems (something this book gets lost in while glossing over some of the concepts).

If you're looking for a self-study book, this is definitely not it because it's hard enough to understand with the help of a professor. Plus the problems are generally uninteresting and avoid challenging the reader with physics applications. There are plenty of resources online for self-studying math so track down one of those for better recommendations.
This metric version is NOT the same as the regular version; all the even-numbered practice problems are completely different from the other book, so I scored poorly on the homework, as you can imagine. Buying this version will save you like 175 bucks, but your grade will be compromised if your professor assigns homework meant to be completed from the normal version. Haven't checked out the content portions yet, but if it's the same, I'll keep this version for future reference as I progress in my engineering studies. However, for calculus I homework purposes, I'm back to price-hunting....
Needed it for my Calculus lectures and it's super helpful for practice. It does a good job of explaining and the extra practice is good. If you don't understand something it would best to use the textbook and practice even if you don't want to. I also rented the manual out as well for the chapter question answers, it's a pair that you'll need if you decide to practice.
I recommend this text for those wanting to learn calculus without all of the b.s. I imagine this is precisely what Stewart wrote it for, and in most cases I'd say he delivers. Of course, the explanations are not mind blowing, but in the end pure mathematics in introductory courses is not really meant to be intuitive anyway. I find the material quite adequate for learning to do problems in addition to following with a professor in class. Yes, as with pretty much every math and science text I've used, the given examples do not always help to solve problems. My recommendation is to look over the proofs and even do them yourself so you'll understand where the formulas and expressions come from. The book itself is good quality. The hardcover is nice, pages are very thin. It's not very big or heavy which is always nice on the back when you've got to carry it around. I still use it for reference now that I'm done with my basic math courses.
This book was required for my Calculus II course, and would also be used for Calc I (if I had taken it), as well as Calc III.

So far, around 1/3 of the way through the semester, I have found the book to be very helpful. Whenever I had questions about some of the material, I found it was more useful to refer to the book, than my notes. There are 5 tear out reference sheets found in the front/back, which are great for referring back to. Unfortunately, since they are tear-out, this means that if you want them you'll have to buy the book new. It was worth it to me since there were also three classes that would use it.

The formatting of the book is excellent, making it easy to see which points are key, and find formula's when you're simply skimming. I highly recommend this book. It loses the 1 star because the reference sheets are tear-out.
It's pretty much the book you need minus the handful of different questions. Basically the company is trying to scam as much money out of everyone as possible. Even better is when your teacher gives you only odd questions. Just buy the answer book, it's cheaper.
came in good condition. can tell that its used. the last three pages for references were missing, no writing on the book. overall it was ok, really good since i didnt really need those last pages, i didnt worry about that. i liked it and use it for class. since i bought it used it came with no access code, so if you need that youll have to buy it seperatly.
It's poorly written for students to grasp these concepts without enough steps in between to clearly see how the author arrived at his answers. This book is for people who've already taken a calc class or understand this material at ease.

If you have this book for a college course, I wish you the best of luck. I even ordered the solutions manual and I still struggled with it.
