My rating is really more of a 4.5. The book is really clear. Review is built in in a meaningful and effective way. It's great for self-study (I've been doing self study for a while: one chapter a day). I haven't found that many errors in the answer key, just one or two. The only major criticism is that in section 5.6, division of polynomials, he slips in division of polynomials in 2 variables by binomials in 2 variables into the exercises without having given a single example in the text, as if these were just your everyday variations on division of polynomials in 1 variable by binomials in 1 variable. Not at all intuitive. Why not give some examples? Ditto with division of polynomials in 1 variable by trinomials in 1 variable: they come up in the chapter exercise but he gives no examples of these in the chapter. Odd. Maybe these have been addressed in subsequent editions, don't know. Other than that, I've really learned a lot with this book. Highly recommend it.

It's Algebra. It's my third try at Algebra 2. Both previous times I did it online using MyMathLab and failed both. This time I'm taking it in person using this book, and so far it's a big help. Clear descriptions, lots of practice problems.

Still, it's Algebra. I'd rather read Ulysses.

The rental price was GREAT though.

This book is the bomb. I have been studying from it for a couple of months now preparing for a teacher's examination. I am self-studying only and have found this bood to be very user-friendly. There are a lot of sample problems and as well as practice problems. There are review problems from previous chapters in every section of practice problems. I also like that the order of the equations and problems are not necessarily in increasing difficulty order. An easy question/equation/prblem (whatever) are mixed in with the harder ones. There are also a lot of "real-world" kind of applications. So, if you are wanted a little more of a broader view of Algebra (besides just "how can I pass the test" material) I think this would be a good choice.

Not only is the material in the book great, but I especially love how Blitzer easily breaks down each concept and presents it in a straightforward way. My favorite thing is the chapter summaries which I wish I could purchase as charts separately (the list all the formulas/proofs in one column, and an example in another). Was easy/cheap to get the solutions manual for this, so I highly recommend it. If you'd like to see the chapters at least, look up the book on CourseSmart. I'm loving this book, and next I'm grabbing Blitzer's Alg/Trig book! Just wish he made a comprehensive Calculus book(s) =)

I taught middle school math years ago and wanted to review before taking some more advanced math courses. Blitzer's text was an excellent choice. Math to me was like a tractor pull - the further I got, the more lost I became because I had to rely on memorizing processes without fully understanding the underlying reasons. Blitzer provides clear explanations of the reasons for the processes. Also, I was never able to give my students reasons when they asked, "When will I ever need this?" but Blitzer gives real world examples in every section of how the particular process is used in real life. I plan to teach college level math in the future and I plan to seek out Blitzer's textbooks for use in my classes!

This the book that is required for my current class and I have found it helpful. I have also purchased the supplemental answer guide to this book as well. The answer guide is a great compliment to this book, due to the fact that it provides good examples for some problems.

4e is like 5e. Chose priority shipping, was sent 2-day (business days) shipping. Good condition. Clean. I have the etext My Math Lab, but do best with paper, so this book helps a lot. Etext from Lab takes too much time to print. This is a good solution.
I rented this book for a class and it worked out great. I’m still using it, and have until December to send it back. I’m hoping this process isn’t too hard. So far, so good.
