Juvenile pop culture references, an inconsistent "compilation of my notes" writing style, steeped in the jargon of fixed income, weak coverage of similar securities outside of the asset class (EDS vs. vanilla call), and stupifyingly overpriced given its breadth and length. This is really a hard-backed journal paper that should be purchased only with someone else's money.

This book is not worth the price in my opinion. The explanation of credit derivatives is very basic, which is okay since its an introduction, but I was expecting more on how these instruments actually trade in the market place, quoting conventions of High Yield vs IG credit derivs, insights on valuation, market conventions, etc. A good book if you are just starting in credit derivs and want to understand the very basics, but for $70 there wasn't much meet to it (150 pages)

This book covers the most important credit derivatives from basics to complex applications. It gave me a great perspective on the strategies employed by the major players in asset swaps, CDSs, CLNs and other instruments. It also provides a good foundation on understanding the visible and invisible risks inherent in these instruments. As credit risk represents over 60% of the risk in a financial institution, having this guide at your fingertips is essential.

Great reference for bankers and the intellectually curious on the growing market of credit risk transfer vehicles.
