I read a book called Information Technology and People, Designing for the Future written by Frank Blackler and David Oborne. Something very interesting Oborne discussed in the book was how we are constantly adapting to technology, even though we are the ones creating it. For some reason we are creating these things that are too advanced for us, and once we finally catch up to it, we create something new. A quote I found very interesting was Substantial amounts of time, effort and money are being wasted simply because man and machine are not in harmony (Oborne, 66).

This book should point the way, as it were, for better solutions in the future. The complexity behind what appears to be a simple directional sign is astounding. Truly design for the people, wayfinding systems help us navigate through our world

This book should point the way, as it were, for better solutions in the future. - Stephen Zacks -Print Magazine, June 2009. this informative little book shows how we find our way from here to there using a complex systems of visual, audible and tactile cues. Truly design for the people, wayfinding systems help us navigate through our world. Part primer, part design resource, the latest from the Design Briefs series concisely covers the immense and wildly varying field of, as the subtitle says, information design for public spaces.

Today's rapid growth in information technology has occurred without a full understanding of the human consequences of its use—on individuals, on organizations, and on society as a whole. As a result, initial expectations have frequently not been met, and a backlash has developed. Clearly a more realistic approach to information technology is needed, and applied psychology can offer great help in this effort. This book takes a problem centered approach to questions of usability, applicability, and acceptability, giving an overview of current research on information technology at work, at home, in education, and in medicine, and where possible, making recommendations for the future. Chapters cover psychology and information technology; management, workers, and the new technologies; factory automation; ergonomics and the new technologies; off ice systems; expert systems in the health field; health care; the disabled; computers in education; attitudes toward the new technologies; information technology and home-based services; and information technology in the home. Distributed for The British Psychological Society.
