Summary: This is an interactive activity book with a goal of helping kids understand what grief is and to recognize their grief. The book describes life being normal until the worst thing happens – someone special dies. In basic line drawings it shows that normal life is no longer normal. The book ask kids to draw or list new thoughts or questions or memories they have since someone special died. It asks kids to draw new feelings they feel, identify pain in their body, and draw things they are doing differently. As a mental health therapist who likes to do art therapy with clients, this book was a great find! It can even be adapted to be used with kids who are not ready to talk about 'death' yet, but can help ease them into processing what happened.

This book is not what I thought it would be. This would be a tool for at home use but not in a clinic office. I would not recommend this book to any professionals and I am actually returning it.

This is an excellent kid focused/easy workbook to help kids understand what they are experiencing. My nephew lost his dad about 6 months ago, and this was such a great book to help him understand what he was feeling and express it! I recommend it to any and everyone who has a child in their life who has experienced losing a loved one!

The "Grief Bubble..." book is a precious tool for any adult, professional or otherwise, who wishes to help a child deal with the worst crisis one can imagine. The book is highly interactive, very creative, and provides a remarkable bridge to allow healing. The "Grief Bubble...." elicits active participation between the child and the adult who reads with that child, plus letting the child begin a journey to lead him or her to finding resolution and strength after the storm. The book "The Grief Bubble..." does not sugar coat any of the trauma, but addresses the complex dynamics of the grief process through seemingly simple yet potent focal tasks. With loving understanding of the pain and its tentacles the book speaks directly to the child at the child's level of awareness. There is no technical language, there is no preaching, but a natural, organic flow to the process of providing understanding and support in a manner that any child would actually like to tackle. "The Grief Bubble..." is thoroughly a child designated book, specifically designed to instantly engage the child, yet it is completely aligned with the highly professional standards and practices of the counseling and therapy fields. This light beam in the dark truly can show a way out of the agony and despair which strike when a child is faced with the ultimate horror: a death in the family circle.

I provide grief support groups and this is a great resource to have! The kids and adults all love learning about how grief changes over time, including having a new normal. It really helps to know how grief changes and what to expect in an interactive and compassionate way. This is a great book!
