I'd Rather Laugh book. However the point is that this book is kind of a guilty pleasure. It's fun looking into the life of someone you probably couldn't stand to be around for more than an introduction.

Linda Richman was the inspiration for her. (Myers is her son-in-law; a sharp sense of humor apparently runs in the family. Like the "Coffee Talk" lady, Richman teaches people how to handle suffering through laughter. She's so good at it that she teaches a seminar on the topic at the posh Canyon Ranch Health Resort in Arizona. But she speaks from some harrowing experiences. She has indeed had a tough life: she lost her father at age eight and her mother to hospitalization shortly thereafter; her husband was a compulsive gambler, and her son died in a car accident. However, after a few chapters, it starts to sound as if she is making excuses for her own behavior.

In Linda Richman's words, this is a "self-help book for people who realize self-help doesn't com in books.

Linda Richman has been through so much. Linda has a wonderful and funny way of helping us with almost everything that life brings us. She has been to hell and back and she can still laugh

Linda Richman has been through so much. It's painful to read about some of the tragedies she's endured, but uplifting to see how they've made her a stronger person. Her advice is excellent, her writing is engaging, and the help she gives in dealing with adversity has made me a stronger person. I am now able to use the tools she writes about in her book in my own life. She has been to hell and back and she can still laugh. She had me in tears and also laughing so hard, I thought my sides would split.

Although Linda intended for this book to help readers keep positive in bad situations, it really focused on the death of her 29-yr. old son. This book would best be recommended to those who experience agoraphobia or to those who have lost a son, or even to someone interested in the life of Mike Myers' mother-in-law. niquetteb, August 13, 2016.

I started reading this book when I began aggressive chemotherapy. It is not cancer specific, but holds a message that can translate to any trying time in life. It showed me that it's still possible to maintain a sense of humor during hard times; it's not only ok, but also healing to laugh. If that isn't enough of a draw for you the author, Linda Richman, is the mother-in-law of comedian Mike Myers as well as the inspiration for his SNL character the Coffee Talk Lady.

The self-described "typical Jewish girl from Long Island" and the most popular speaker at the world-renowned Canyon Ranch Spa presents a tears and laughter guidebook to help readers withstand life's hard knocks. 6 people like this topic.

This book is humorous, and really helps to show people how to be more upbeat and positive. Great for people who are mildly depressed. There were a couple of things in her life that were mentioned too many times. (Like Mike Meyers is her son in law...) Other than that, I enjoyed and would recommend this book.

Amazing book! Uplifting, inspirational, comforting, practical advice. Ms. Richman should have been a psychologist. I've reread this book so many times over the years - - and purchased several copies for friends in need. A must-read for anyone who is grieving or depressed or just in need of a pick-me-up. I highly recommend!

I had the hard cover for many years. Since my things are in storage, I have a Kindle to get books on. I love this book. I know she writes about flooding her son, but I have found that this book applies to all loss. I lost my Mom two years ago and it has been a painful struggle to get back up on my feet. Books like this do help.
