Nicki Holland, a student at Pine Grove Middle School, introduces herself to the new Korean student. When the new student becomes a victim of bullying, mysterious Chinese characters show up on lockers, papers, even a scarf found around a dog's neck. Nicki and her friends investigate to find the truth. This middle grade mystery is a fun, fast read that teaches a lesson without seeming too obvious. The characters are well-crafted and the plot is suspenseful. The drawback: 15 words were used in this story incorrectly. For instance, in chapter 5 a sentence reads, "Maybe we can help her food good about herself." The word food should have been feel. These mistakes take the reader out of the story, and is disruptive.

I picked up this book free during an Amazon giveaway. Decent mystery for the preteen crowd, a little older than Bobbsey Twins or Boxcar Children, with logical story progression even if the main characters feature the obligatory racial/cultural mix. (There's nothing wrong with having characters from different racial and cultural backgrounds, of course, I just got the feeling Hunt used the cookie-cutter approach to make sure her characters wouldn't offend anyone.) Unfortunately, Hunt's word use is unacceptably sloppy. Of a recent immigrant, she wrote, "Because Kim's for Korea." I have no clue what she was trying for when she wrote "Corrin made the mistake of calling Meredith the 'n-word' in guy." Do schools these days have a place called guy? "Laura wriggled her fingers." I'm pretty sure she meant wiggled but it's still an odd way to catch some one's attention. "You heart that Scott thought Kim was cute." With the epidemic of sloppy English among young people, Hunt should have taken whatever extra steps were needed to ensure her book would set a good example. Kindle formatting was acceptable.

The Nicki Holland Mysteries is a great series for teen girls. I love these books as a kid. So excited to share them with the next generation! Hooray!

I enjoyed this book very much. The book is about seventh graders, but I think fifth-sixth graders would like it too. I only wish that they would show a picture of the mystery mark. I am curious to see what it looks like!

The book is well written and a young teenager would enjoy it. Could be fun to read and share for them.

very silly, antics juvenile and unrealistic I would not recommend this to my teen ager at all. Not uplifting and leaves an undisiplined bunch of Kids.

This book is the best if you like mysteries. It drove me crazy when they thought their friend Kim Park was under doing all the odd happenings at school when she didn't do it or did she? I geuss you'll have to read the book and find out. Its great for kids and adults my mom is reading it too hope I've helped!

I have been reading Angela Hunt for years and find I think about her topics often. So when I got my Kindle, I looked her work up and chose this story. It is filled with mistakes and was very distracting. I hope future books won't have the same problem.
