This is a good reference for listing the most interesting attractions region by region, and the section about airport and ground transportation in Dublin is useful. However, the writing is dry and lacks any point of view or sense of enthusiasm. I found that Rick Steves' book gave me a better understanding of why I might or might not enjoy certain attractions, including some interesting anecdotes and fun facts that enhanced my experience. Also, unlike the Steves book, there are not many itineraries for touring (but the downside of the Steves approach is that if you don't follow his route, the place descriptions are harder to find). This book's strengths are that it's well organized so you can easily find the towns and regions regardless of which route you may be taking, there are nice color photos and illustrations, and the descriptions are concise and factually correct. Also, the maps inside the covers are good.

I spent some time trying to figure out which books would be the most helpful and inspirational. This book is easy to use, has great pictures of the places I'm anxious to see and has been easier to flip through when I have to go back to a certain county. It lists the locations of each attraction and then has them plotted on the map for that county which has given me the confidence to think I know what I'm doing and where I'm going. I also got Lonely Planet's Ireland and Discover Ireland. I've read through these two a little but I find myself going back to the DK more often. Lonely Planet Ireland is all black and white and doesn't draw you in although it does list the attractions, dining and accommodations for each county all together. In DK they focus on the attractions per county and then at the back of the book they make reference to restaurants, places to stay, culture and shopping. I like this better because I use Trip Advisor to help me make those choices and need a book to help me stay focused on the attractions and their locations. I wish I had bought two DK books instead of Lonely Planet. But I've only had them all for 3 days and will continue to use each one. Although the two Lonely Planet ones repeat each other (as they should), I see myself using the Discover Ireland book more often since the print is much larger and everything is in color. But overall, get the DK Ireland. It's great!

Incredible resource to plan our upcoming trip to Ireland. It does not provide specific information for driving through the country, so we bought the other book for that. However, the pictures, suggestions, and historical information have only hightened the anticipation of our trip. I would recommend this series to anyone looking to travel abroad, and am very impressed with the format and content of this book. I would not plan a trip without first purchasing a DK Travel book for the country. I am certain you will not be disappointed.

As soon as I saw that DK had a 2016 version I ordered it, despite the fact that my trip was nearly 100% planned. This book,as with all the DK Eyewitness books, is absolutely incredible: fantastic illustrations, suggested walking tours in each major city in order to get the most out of your time, great two-week and one-week itineraries that give you a great starting point for building your own trip. I found tons of things that my standard Lonely Planet guide for Ireland did not cover, including small gems that you might normally pass by on your way to the big attractions. Absolutely a great buy!

Having owned many versions of the Ireland one over the years, they truly are amazing books that are easily used and easy to carry with while vacationing to any country. I recently got this for friends who were and are inspired to go to Ireland based on our five trips there over a ten year period, I got them this as a gift and as a bit of us with them during their journey, trust this book that much, amazing. Highly suggest this series on any country you are visiting, well worth it and compact yet durable enough to enjoy having with while in the heat of the travel. Downtown can be such a waste when you are limited on time as it is, you want to relax and enjoy and drain the pleasure out of every second you can for you may only walk this way but once and oh wow if you do, this is a great companion to have on that walk. Sla'n goodbye in the Gaelic. Enjoy immensely ALL as you travel this beautiful planet we call home/mother earth.

Used in conjunction with Rick Steves book to plan a trip. An EXCELLENT guide - love the color pictures! DK always covers some things that Rick doesn't (and vice versa) - so it's best to compare the two when planning any foreign vacation. Example: Rick says you can skip Clonmacnoise and just go to Glendalough; we went to BOTH, and are SO GLAD we did. DK mentions St. Brendan's Clonfert Cathedral - a small, out-of-the-way church with the most amazing carved sandstone doorway. The DK Eyewitness series is outstanding. Never disappointed in the quality of the book or what it covers. Highly recommend.
