Prague - the Best Beer City in Europe. Prague is the best city in Europe for beer lovers. That probably sounds outlandish, at least at irst glance. PORTER – a legal term for dark beers made from barley with a wort containing at least 18% extracted sugars before fermentation. A secondary meaning may refer to one of the many porter styles of beer: dark, oten bitter, top- and bottom-fermented beers originally brewed in Britain and the Baltics.

But best of all are the touches that go the extra mile: the lists of beer shops in Prague; beer hotels; and better still, Czech beer festivals.

but no matter, this is a great guide. But best of all are the touches that go the extra mile: the lists of beer shops in Prague; beer hotels; and better still, Czech beer festivals. No lover of good beer or the Czech Republic should be without this guide.

Beer (Czech: pivo) has a long history in what is now the Czech Republic, with brewing taking place in Břevnov Monastery in 993. The city of Brno had the right to brew beer from the 12th century while Plzeň and České Budějovice (Pilsen and Budweis in German), had breweries in the 13th century. The most common Czech beers are pale lagers of pilsner type, with characteristic transparent golden colour, high foaminess and lighter flavour  .

Perhaps the most well-worn book on my shelf, this fabulous beer guide was a superb companion for my wife and I as we spent two years living in Prague.

Perhaps the most well-worn book on my shelf, this fabulous beer guide was a superb companion for my wife and I as we spent two years living in Prague. It served as a teacher, a guide, a map and ultimately a to-do list. I re-read sections on Czech beer styles and the culture of beer and breweries in Czech Republic, but spent most of my time flipping through Prague section planning our next outing.

Each month we recycle over . million books, saving over 12,500 tonnes of books a year from going straight into landfill sites. All of our paper waste is recycled and turned into corrugated cardboard. This is an authoritative and entertaining guide to the breweries, beers, bars and pubs of the Czech lands, written with an insider's eye for detail and a beer-lover's thirst for great pivo, the Czech national drink.

Averaging 281 pints of ale per capita per year, the Czech Republic is far and away the world’s leader in beer consumption. As this handy guidebook of beer shows, Czechs are equally expert in brewing beer as well. Listings and analyses are provided of all the major Czech beers as well as lesser-known brews that  are only available within the country, from the highly alcoholic X-33 to the unique, nonpasteurized version of Pilsner Urquell. A guide is also offered to the top pubs, breweries, and drinking holes across the nation, as well as to such unique locations as the Chodovar brewery, which offers full-body beer baths, and the Pelhrimov brewery, which hosts free, open-air rock concerts. Filled to the brim with history, trivia, information on inns and accommodations, and extensive backstories, this is an essential resource for beer lovers and world travelers alike.

Ok, so I have traveled all over the Czech Republic using this book and have never been let down, but this book needs to be updated badly Evan.
Ok, so let me save you some time here: take the Train to Pisn and go to the brewery there & then go to Kout na Sumave and drink arguably, the best lager beer in the whole world.

The Czech Republic is arguably the best beer country on Earth, although the USA has a bit to offer as well. The great thing about both Prague and the Czech Republic is that they are easy to get around. Prague can be covered on foot and by mass transit, and the rest of the country is accessible in a matter of hours by train, bus or car.

Evan Rail lives in Prague and devoted many months to visiting almost all of the country's breweries and a select number of Prague pubs. I have used his book to plan several day trips from Prague, and think it would be a great resource for planning an all-beer vacation as well.
