This book looked good at first glance, but after reading it I found it had too few details on the important monuments and too many on towns in South Dakota I cared little about. Also, it lacked maps that could have enhance its usefulness. It could have also given more details and history on the Badlands and the Black Hills. All in all it just repeated facts that anyone could get from the internet. It had no independent character or style that could have made it more informative and interesting. Also its price was expensive. Over $9. Definitely not worth that. At most worth $2! I regret buying this book.

It's fine. Nothing special. When you get to S.D., you'll find brochures that are free and have pretty much everything that's in this book, so unless you want to read this beforehand, I'd wait until you get there and pick up the free brochures that are in every gas station and state park visitor's center.

The book covered a lot of area and a lot of attractions. Most of the books I found focused on the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore. This one thoroughly covers the central and eastern parts of the state as well. It is a little outdated, so check times and visitor centers. One miss was the Brookings Childrens Museum which is too new to appear in the book but is an absolute must-see.

We used this guidebook on out trip to South Dakota in August. It was EXTREMELY helpful, and we used it not only to plan the trip but also while there for random activities. It's a teeny bit outdated, as some of the businesses listed are no longer open (mainly B&B or small business places). However, it is ALWAYS wise to plan in advance, thus you would easily find - just as we did - that these businesses had closed and it's no big deal.

As an aside, everyone should visit the Black Hills. Since I am declaring this, you will obviously also need this book, and then the author can update it. Everyone wins!

I really liked this book. There were many things that were new to me even though I have lived I this state all my life. The parts of the state I was most familar with were described in details and insights were helpful.
We used this review book for our entire South Dakota trip and felt like it led us in ALL of the right directions.
